Learning Resource Center
Director: Ann McAndrew
The Learning Resource Program (LRC) helps insure that
Tandem students are successful in their academic pursuits.
Students are considered for LRC services if a teacher
or parent refers them, or through self-referral. Acceptance
into the LRC requires that students recognize the need
for tutorial assistance and agree to demonstrate sufficient
effort while in the program. The central goal of the
program is to teach skills that will lead toward academic
scholarship and independence. The tutorial sessions
primarily focus on supporting the student directly with
current course work.
LRC services are provided in other areas as well. Academic
remediation, such as reading, writing, and spelling
instruction, is offered. High-ability and high-performing
students who wish to improve are given the opportunity
to expand their knowledge base in tutorial sessions
and through independent study. Targeted tutoring in
foreign languages and high-level math and science is
also offered.

The LRC also serves as a resource in other ways. Any
Tandem student, teacher or parent with questions about
learning differences or academic accommodations may
contact the LRC. The LRC provides information on the
availability of community resources for students with
specific learning needs. This may include information
on educational testing, adaptive technology, psychological
services, summer academic programs, educational specialists
and parent groups. The LRC can also review educational
testing, if requested.
