Overview
| Tandem Friends School encourages
students in grades five through twelve to participate
in interscholastic sports regardless of their previous
experience or attained skill level. We recognize
the important balance between academics and athletics,
and believe strongly that regular exercise, the
development of skills, and interscholastic athletic
competition play critical roles in a student’s
growth. |
 |
We stress the values of teamwork
and cooperation, and students learn to cope
respectfully and courteously in times of failure
and disappointment as well as in times of
success and mastery. Athletic participation
contributes to the development of a child’s
self-esteem, confidence and overall character,
as well as providing opportunities for leadership
and success outside the classroom. Tandem
believes in and practices a “no-cut”
policy.
Physical education is a daily event for middle
school students. The program is designed to
develop individual skills, increase cardiovascular
strength and to provide students with exposure
to sport and play.
|
|
| Each year the students
participate in the Presidential Fitness Test. Middle
school students in the 6th through 8th grade are
encouraged to participate in interscholastic sports.
Electives such as yoga, weight lifting and tae kwon
do are available to upper school students. |
