Fifth-Grade Visit to Jefferson Area Board for Aging
January 2007
The 5th grade, working with teachers, Carolena Saunders and Lydia Horan, performed
a Swahili poem, and wrote and performed African folk tales for an appreciative
audience at the Jefferson Area Board for Aging's Adult Day Health Care facility.
They collaboratively acted out a funny poem, then students told or read their
own tales, which were acted out by their classmates. After the folk tales, the
students and residents told some collaborative stories together, which all ages
enjoyed. Finally, several of the residents told the children funny stories from
their own lives.
It was a great experience, and the residents asked the 5th grade to come back
again.
