Louise DeCamp Cole
Director of Admissions

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Tandem Friends School. Grounded in Quaker values, Tandem offers a rigorous, comprehensive academic program for grades 5-12, strong arts offerings, including visual arts, music and drama, and a successful no-cut athletics program.

The best way to understand the unique atmosphere and close-knit feel of our community is to visit us. Come tour our campus and visit classes. I think you will be inspired by the kind, respectful interactions between students and faculty and the engaged learning you will see.

To schedule a visit or receive additional information about Tandem, or to start your application process, click Inquire Online. If you prefer, you can call me at (434) 951-9314 or send me an e-mail.

Application Process

The following is a step-by-step guide to the admissions process. Steps can be completed in any order.
  • Schedule a parent tour and informational session through the Admissions Office.
  • Complete the application, Parent Questionnaire, and Student Statement (either online or using paper forms), and submit them to the Admissions Office with the $50 application fee. Click Inquire Online  to begin the application process online.
  • You can start an application, save it, and continue completing it at a later time.  If you have started an application you can continue working on it here.
  • Schedule a full-day visit for your child. If your application has been received, admissions testing will be completed on the day of the visit. Otherwise, it will be scheduled separately.
  • Print/sign the transcript release form and submit it to your child's current school. If you are homeschooling, please provide a copy of the curriculum you are following as well as any standardized test results or other outside evaluations.
  • Print/submit the teacher/personal recommendation forms to:
    • your child's homeroom teacher (applicants for grades 5 and 6)
    • your child's English teacher (applicants for grades 7-12)
    • your child's math teacher (applicants for grades 7-12)
    • a non-relative who knows your child well (all applicants)

When all steps have been completed, and all forms have been received, the admissions folder will be complete. Your child will then be scheduled for an interview with the Admissions Committee.
