Tandem Alum Working for Credit Suisse

July 30, 2010

We asked some alums with interesting new jobs to share what they're working on. This just in from Nick Kyger (TFS '06):

'I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill last May with a degree in Computer Science and have just started working for Credit Suisse, a global investment bank. I'm currently helping develop software as a member of their "Technical Analyst" program, which is comprised of recent college grads working in the more technical areas of the bank - IT, Software Development, etc. We started work last week (July 19th) after a week of training in New York, and so far I'm really enjoying both the type of work and the atmosphere of the office. One of the things I like most about the program is collaborating with so many people close to my own age, including some from UNC who I've known for a while. It's always difficult settling into a new job, but having a group of peers who are in the same boat helps a lot. I'm very thankful to both UNC and Tandem, and for all the professors who've helped me along the way!'

Tandem Alum Working in Gore Office

July 29, 2010

We asked some alums with interesting new jobs to share what they're working on. This just in from Dan Myers (TFS -07):

'I'm currently a rising senior at Dickinson College where I'm an environmental studies major. For the past two months I have been interning in the office of Al and Tipper Gore in Nashville, TN where I work for Kalee Kreider, Mr. Gore's chief spokeswoman and environmental adviser. After releasing An Inconvenient Truth in 2007, Mr. Gore has been traveling the world giving his now famous slideshow and training others to do so as well. This summer, my job has been to update and vet the slideshow as well as suggest ideas for new slides. To accomplish this, I have researched every slide in the show (over 540), sought advice from some of the world's foremost climate scientists and diligently surveyed recently scientific papers. It's been a truly fascinating summer and I hope to continue this type of work in the future.'
