At Tandem Friends School, we believe that the finest education is achieved through an active partnership between faculty and students. We honor students by holding them to high standards. As a college preparatory school, Tandem Friends sets high standards of academic excellence, which includes creative thought and independent thinking. Tandem Friends offers rigorous training in core skills of verbal and quantitative reasoning as well as self-expression. Our two mottoes, "Freedom with Responsibility" and "Kindness and Wisdom," are prevalent in everyday activities and are important components of the Tandem Friends experience. The curriculum is broad and innovative and is complemented by attention to the individual student.

Our high expectations of students are possible because our faculty and staff meet a high standard of professional and personal excellence in their work. We actively foster our employees' continuing growth through professional development funding and an environment that is characterized by open communication, collaboration and a strong sense of community. Tandem Friends School is a co-educational, independent day school with a diverse enrollment of 215 students. The school is located on a 23-acre campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. Tandem Friends was founded as The Tandem School in 1970, and was affiliated as a Quaker (Friends) school in 1995.
