Isabelle
Abbot is a Tandem Friends alumna. She attended Davidson College
for two years, spent a semester abroad studying in Italy,
and later transferred to UVA where she received a degree in
Studio Art with a concentraion in painting. Since graduating,
Isabelle has had several art exhibitions in the Charlottesville
area in addition to teaching an after-school art program at
Oakland School.
George
Andrews has a B.F.A in Film, and an M.F.A. in New Genres from
the San Francisco Art Institute. He teaches Art History and
Digital Filmmaking at Tandem Friends School, and Art History
at PVCC. This is George’s second year as a Spectrum instructor
and he is excited to utilize Tandem’s new MacLab.
Sarah
Beaulieu is a certified American Sign Language Interpreter
with a B.A. in Deaf Culture Studies from North Central University
in Minnesota. She is currently an interpreter in a high school
and freelances in the community as well. She is looking forward
to her first year at Spectrum.
Judy
Cahill has been “Woodworking with Children” since 1980. She
has a B.A. in Education from the University of Michigan, and
works as a carpenter when not teaching. Judy is constantly
delighted by the creativity and pride of accomplishment of
her students.
Candace
Cone has been teaching French at Tandem Friends School for
six years. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in French and has completed
coursework towards a PhD. Her hobbies include writing, needlework
and cooking.
Richard Drake is a past participant of Live Arts’ LAT4 training
program and is actively involved in theater and working with
children. He directs plays while busily studying theater.
This fall, Richard hopes to be a first-year student at Carnegie-Mellon
continuing his studies in acting. He is thrilled to be at
Spectrum.
James
Faine is the Director of the Charlottesville Fencing Alliance,
Head Coach of the Grymes and Buford Fencing Clubs, is affiliated
with both the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association and the U.S.
Fencing Association, and is a nationally rated competitive
fencer in Foil and Epee as well as a fencing Armourer and
Referee. James returns for his second year with Spectrum.
Bryan
Hawkes is an Elementary Education major at Radford College.
He plans to be a kindergarten teacher. He volunteers with
the Crozet Fire Department and is a registered Emergency Medical
Technician. This will be Bryan's 7th summer working at Spectrum.
Leslie
Kenner is a licensed elementary school teacher with a B.A.
in Theatre rts from Davidson College. Leslie studied art and
theatre in London, has written many children’s plays, and
created various theatre programs. She also has made many handmade
toys and books for her two fabulous children.
Meg
Madden is an experienced dancer, performer, and teacher who
has worked with traditional and contemporary dance forms from
Canada to Appalachia. Meg has taught at the Augusta Heritage
Center's summer camps, Blue Ridge Irish Music School, and
at Harrisonburg's Dance & Co. She currently dances with
a lively percussive dance trio, Good Foot Dance Company. She’s
very excited to be a part of Spectrum's family!
Katie
Marshall is a Tandem Friends School alumna with a B.F.A. in
Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University.
This is her first Spectrum summer and she's thrilled to be
returning to the oh-so-talented Tandem community.
Lynn
Ramsson has a B.A and M.A from JMU, and an M.Ed/Ed.S from
UVA. For more than five years, she’s taught middle and high
school English. She began teaching at Stuart Hall in Staunton
and currently teaches middle school in Half Moon Bay, CA.
She is looking forward to returning to Charlottesville this
summer just in time to teach at Spectrum. When Lynn makes
time to pursue her creative goals, she does so printmaking
and doing collage.
Francine Smith has a B.S. degree in Art Education (grades
K-12) from Southern Connecticut State University, and has
been an arts educator for over 40 years. She was past Artistic
Director and co-founder of Live Arts where she is presently
a resident director. Fran, when not at Spectrum, is a graphic
designer.
Sherri
Smith is a creative learning consultant and academic advisor.
As owner of Lander Creative and co-founder of The Genius Center
(www.GenieU.com), she has worked with numerous adults and
children creating hands-on programs that incorporate creative
writing, music, theatre, ecology and art.
