Giving Day 2023

Tandem Friends School is a place where young people are accepted for who they are, a place where their personal aspirations take root and where students are provided the care and opportunities they need to grow into thriving individuals who go forth into the world with confidence in their own capabilities and ambitions.
When you make a gift to the Tandem Friends Fund, you are directly providing our students the resources that they need to pursue their dreams, whether it is through the science lab, on the stage or on the field. The small size of Tandem Friends School allows students to try a broad range of pursuits and to feel the fulfillment of being trusted and appreciated for their growth and commitment in any area they choose. We provide a safe space, where kids can do something they have never done before, where challenges are a part of growth and respect for the process of learning is the essence of success. You can help to ensure that many more students have access to this type of environment by committing your support with a financial gift today.
YOUR GIFTS AT WORK
The Tandem Friends Fund provides the needed resources to make amazing and unique experiences accessible to our students. This year, your support has helped to make countless meaningful experiences possible. Here are a just a few examples of programs that have benefited from the support of the Tandem Friends Fund.
Quaker Youth Leadership Conference:
Our student leaders from Friends Council made a splash in Baltimore and at Sandy Spring Friends School as Tandem representatives at the Quaker Youth Leadership Conference. Here on campus, they have done amazing work setting the tone for valuing community and making the most of each day on campus together.
Science Olympiad:
Engineering students are finishing the year building their remote-controlled boats and trebuchets. Many of them also helped our Science Olympiad team conquer regional competition and qualify for the State-level tournament in March. We are proud of our team - their spirit and their accomplishments!
Sophomore Seminar:
Sophomores presented their research and learning at their Capstone program in April. After learning the library system at UVA, they dove into research on everything from teen mental health, to supersonic flight, to roller coasters, horror movies, religion in politics and more. They are ready for everything that junior and senior years will throw their way.
Teen Mental Health First Aid:
In August, our entire faculty and staff were trained in teen mental health first aid. Then, during the winter, our 10th-12th graders received the same training. At Tandem, the well-being of our students is essential, and your support helps us to make programming like this possible.
College Counseling:
We are so proud of our seniors! The thirty students in this year’s graduating class received 105 acceptances to 75 colleges. 11 of them applied early decision and all 11 were admitted! Some students are staying nearby to attend UVA, University of Richmond and VCU, while others are venturing off to places like Colorado College, Bates College in Maine, Swarthmore College and Drexel University in Philadelphia, and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Two of our seniors earned full-ride merit scholarships to their chosen universities. And best of all, they will head off to college knowing themselves and ready for what is ahead!
Athletics:
Our girls varsity soccer team and our boys varsity lacrosse team recently competed in conference playoffs. Next, members of our spring track team travel to Richmond to compete in States! Already, one of our seniors is off to play soccer at Haverford College and two more plan to run cross-country, one at Vassar College and one at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. We are proud of our student-athletes for accomplishing so much!
The Tandem Friends Fund Spring Day of Giving
is Thursday, May 18, 2023!

Join us in supporting Tandem Friends School by contributing to our SPRING DAY of GIVING!

Because of you, we are able to provide formative experiences for our students and foster meaningful new connections.

This spring, your gift will go further than ever with these rare opportunities for a match.
  • If 50 alumni donors give, $5,000 will be given by a member of the Class of 1973, in honor of their 50th reunion. Help us hit our target to unlock these funds!
  • ALL gifts made between now and May 31, 2023 will be doubled! That means making a gift of $500 sends $1,000 to the Tandem Friends Fund, up to a total of $20,000.
  • The first $10,000 in gifts from current parents will be TRIPLED by our matching donors. That means that if you have a student at Tandem, your gift will have three times the value to our school! Help us max out this gift match as soon as possible!

All gifts must be received before the end of May in order to count towards a matching gift.

Don’t wait, make your Spring Day gift today!
