Tandem Friends School is a co-educational, independent day school for grades 5-12 with a diverse enrollment of 224 students. The school is located on a 31-acre campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was founded as The Tandem School in 1970, and was affiliated as a Quaker (Friends) school in 1995.

Upper School Latin

Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, anticipates an opening for an experienced, full-time Upper School Latin teacher to begin teaching in the 2018-19 school year.

At Tandem Friends School, Latin is required during the sixth and seventh grade years; students then opt for Latin, French, or Spanish in the eighth-grade year and continue their course of study in Upper School.

The ideal candidate will possess:
• 3-5 years of teaching experience,

Academic Administrator/Executive Assistant to the Head of School
Tandem Friends School seeks an Academic Administrator/Executive Assistant to the Head of School to provide consistent, confidential, and professional administrative support for school operations as directed by the Head of School. This position serves as the Executive Assistant to the Head of School, maintaining the Head’s schedule/appointments and preparing meeting agendas and minutes. The candidate organizes and manages a variety of administrative tasks relating to the smooth operations of the academic program and overall school activities. Additionally, the position is responsible for the accurate keeping of all student academic records and transcripts. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position.

Additional responsibilities of this position include:
  • Serves as the School’s registrar to include the necessary distribution of records upon student transfer or matriculation.
  • Supervises classroom coverage and arranges substitute teachers on a daily basis as needed.
  • Prepares and manages the school calendar and schedules a variety of on- and off-campus events.
  • Shares in the coverage of the main office front desk on a daily basis.
  • Compiles information, reports, and presentations as requested by the Head or other senior administrators including managing periodic accreditation review by accrediting organization.
  • Organizes the details of grade-level trips including transportation, making reservations and tracking expenses.
  • Assists with planning campus-wide events, including Senior Commencement, Grandparent’s Day, Meeting for Worship, and others.
  • Acts as AP Exam Co-Coordinator in partnership including room preparation, exam ordering and returning, student registration, and proctor management and coordinates with the Business Office for exam billing.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources in posting faculty positions and receiving resumes as directed by the Head of School.
  • Coordinates Parent-Teacher Conference schedules and sign-ups.
Candidates must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality, have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances with a “can-do” attitude, and have exceptional interpersonal and organization skills with a great attention to detail. They must be able to make quick decisions, take initiative and prioritize tasks while working collaboratively and efficiently. The Academic Administrator/Executive Assistant to the Head of School must be proficient with technology including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps with experience in educational databases such as Blackbaud/On Products (preferred). The ideal candidate has high energy, a great sense of humor, is flexible and team oriented and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere. We seek candidates with 3+ years’ experience in education or as an executive assistant to a high-level school administrator or corporate executive. Bachelor’s degree expected.

Coaching Positions

  • Girls Varsity Volleyball, Head Coach - Pre-season practice starts Monday, August 8, depending on start of school. Regular season practice times are 5:30-7:00pm or 6:30-7:45pm. High school or college/club playing experience required; high school varsity/club coaching experience preferred. Must have the flexibility in work schedule to leave early for away games, occasionally as early as 2:00pm. Most away games require a 3:00-4:30 depart.

  • Girls Varsity Soccer, Assistant Coach (spring season) - Practices will start February 20, weather permitting. Practice times are 4:00-6:00pm, five days a week. High school or college/club playing experience required; high school varsity/club coaching experience preferred. Must have the flexibility in work schedule to leave early for away games, occasionally as early as 1:30pm. Most away games require a 2:00-3:00pm depart.
