Accounting and Benefits Manager

Tandem Friends School, a co-educational, independent Quaker day school for grades 5-12 with a diverse enrollment of approximately 215 students, seeks a part- to full-time Accounting/Benefits Manager to join our Business Office team.  

Primary accounting and finance responsibilities include daily bookkeeping and accounting functions, including but not limited to accounts receivable, payroll, journal entries, and bank reconciliations in accordance with GAAP.  Primary human resource and benefits responsibilities include payroll processing, benefits administration, and maintenance of employee records. The Accounting/Benefits Manager reports to the Director of Finance and Operations.

Successful candidates will have strong accounting and HR experience, be highly organized and detail-oriented with a high-degree of accuracy, and will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. We seek an individual who shares our strong enthusiasm for the School and willingness to support its mission, its talented faculty and staff, and its diverse community of students and families. This role requires a responsive, action-oriented person who can operate both independently and as a vital team member within a fast-paced environment. This is a non-exempt position, which may require overtime and some weekends.

English Teacher

Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, anticipates an opening for an Upper School English and/or 7th & 8th grade English teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.

Throughout our program, TFS students are challenged to read and think critically, write with insight, creativity and precision, and discuss their ideas with supportive classmates and teachers.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• a relevant advanced degree and at least 3-5 years of teaching experience,
• a strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents,
• experience with curriculum design, and student-centered teaching and learning practices,
• a demonstrated ability to work with a diversity of student backgrounds and learning styles.
