Tandem Receives FCE Membership Renewal

Tandem is pleased to share that our Friends Council on Education (FCE) membership renewal was approved in an October meeting. FCE shared the following:

"We are delighted to extend well-deserved congratulations to the entire Tandem Friends School community on the successful renewal of your membership with Friends Council on Education - the national association of Quaker schools. With strong support from the FCE Membership Committee who reviewed and discussed your self-study and visiting team report in detail, the FCE Board of Directors reached unity on your membership renewal during its meeting on October 16, 2025.  Your membership with Friends Council on Education is now affirmed through July 2035.  This significant accomplishment reflects your school’s deep commitment to Quaker values, educational excellence, and ongoing institutional reflection and growth.

The Spring of 2025 visiting team enthusiastically supported Tandem Friends School’s continued membership in the Friends Council on Education. Throughout their meetings with members of the school community, they consistently encountered a deep sense of sincerity and gratitude for Tandem’s presence in Charlottesville. It is clear that the school provides a student-centered environment grounded in empathy, love, and belonging - values that are strongly aligned with the core principles of Friends education.

The Membership Renewal Process (MRP) is far more than a procedural requirement—it is a meaningful opportunity to reaffirm and strengthen Tandem Friends School's Quaker identity. Through your engagement with the self-study process and the visiting team, your school has demonstrated a steadfast dedication to the core tenets of Friends education and have aligned with the FCE Principles of Good Practice across the institution. This renewal also underscores Tandem Friends School's active role in the broader Quaker educational network. The collective efforts of your faculty, staff, and broader school community has been instrumental in carrying forward the mission of Friends education with clarity and purpose."

The visiting team's comments about Tandem spoke of our school as “'living Quakerism in a model way.' At approximately 250 students, it exudes the beauty of a tight-knit school community where students thrive and the campus is robust."
