Tandem Runners Going Places

Organized sports at Tandem Friends started small in the 1970s but our athletic program has grown into a thriving, competitive one. This 50th Friday, we are focusing on running. Our cross country and track teams were the latest to develop, not so old yet but growing in both reputation and size. What started as smaller cross country teams at the Middle and Upper School levels grew to include indoor and outdoor track teams, giving us a thriving three-season co-ed running program that takes up a lot of field space warming up. This year, senior Mason Love became a  Division 1 college athlete - signing with George Mason University's  running program. Mason was an All-State runner, ran a second in the state in the 1600m and 3200m races and was Conference Runner of the Year for two seasons. Teammate Sophie Farr will be running cross country and track for Vassar College in the fall, and there are other alums who have gone on to run at the college level as well. Our teams have consistently placed well at both the state and conference level - including a 2019 state championship in the boys 4x800. And current XC coach Jason Farr was Conference Coach of the Year in 2018. Tandem runners are going places - inside or outside, in any kind of weather, and across any terrain!
