Land Acknowledgements

We acknowledge the custodians of the land we are on today, the Monacan Nation, and pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging. 

We acknowledge the legacy of racial slavery on this site, a former plantation, and the loss of freedom and loss of life of the enslaved people who lived and died here. 

Tandem Friends was founded as an integrated coeducational school in 1970. We work each day to create an equitable and welcoming environment on our campus for people of all backgrounds and beliefs and are committed to confronting the legacies of colonization, slavery, and systemic racism through education, dialogue, and action.
Tandem Friends School is a co-ed Quaker day school for grades 5-12 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
