6th Graders Learn to Amplify their Writing

Christina Davis
Sixth grade English students have been learning about using precise details and emotional reactions to amplify their writing. They were tasked with choosing an object from around the room, and then writing a diary entry from that object's perspective. Cora chose to write from the perspective of her phone, expressing feelings of frustration at having to hang in the caddy all day. Will decided to write from the perspective of a rock sitting on the windowsill, envious of the surrounding plants, and their ability to grow and flourish. Bo chose to write an entry as the Oxford English Dictionary that sits on the ledge next to someone's lost computer charger - surely a mistake, as a lost charger is not worthy enough to be placed next to an object of such stature. These were just a few. They were excellent and fun to read!
