Alums Bring Best Games to Tandem

Last week brought many alums to campus for Alumni vs. Varsity basketball games and for the annual Turkey Bowl, now officially renamed the John Davis Memorial Turkey Bowl. Even more alums showed up to watch and cheer from the sidelines. Portions of each game were live streamed onto Facebook - you can still watch some of them there.
On Tuesday, November 22, female alums (with a few faculty members joining in) took on the varsity girls team at 4pm in the gym. The game got off to a slow start, but really picked up, ending in a victory for the alum team - final score 30-18! Alums playing included Crystal Saravia, Sydney Lunch ('15), Maggie Passino, Dominique Brown ('16), and Rebecca Barber ('11). Faculty players included Jocelyn Camarata, Kelly Muthiora (injured early in the game), Avis Fields, and former AD Jackie Kingma. Senior Emma Passino joined in to help the alum team as well. At 6pm, the varsity men took on male alums in a tight battle that ended with the alums winning by two points. On hand for the alums were Jake Minturn, Conor Kennedy ('11), Eli Ratzlaff ('16), Josh Connelly, Scottie Chambers ('15), Colin Nail, Tommy White ('16), Carson Jones-Wilkins ('16), Dirk Kingma and current senior Javon Carter. Former AD/current Diversity Director Gordon Fields coached both alumni teams.

On Friday, soccer players fresh from the Thanksgiving feast met on the pitch to play soccer and honor the memory of former teacher and coach John Alderman Davis, who died this year. Players included alums, current students, former parents, current parents and everything in between. Alum Dan Meyers and staff member Emily Morrison spoke enthusiastically about John Davis and his love for soccer, teaching and Tandem Friends. Alumsin the photo above include Ali Abdel-Rahman, Evan Harrison-Bibb, Jacob Putnam, Phoebe Schuyler, Tommy White, Rees Parrish, Sam Cole and Dan Meyers.
