10th Grade Puts Dr. Frankenstein on Trial

10th graders are wrapping up their reading of Mary Shelley's groundbreaking novel Frankenstein, and alongside the readings, they've been writing affidavits, witness questions, and opening and closing statements for their culminating project: the Trial of FrankensteinThe Trial of Frankenstein is an in-class mock trial that took place this week on Thursday and Friday. The premise of the trial is that The Creature (i.e., Frankenstein's Monster) is suing his creator Victor Frankenstein for abandonment, psychological abuse, and scientific malpractice—students were divided into prosecution and defense teams and witnesses composed mainly of characters from the novel. English teacher Robert Schuster served as the presiding judge and faculty and staff members offered their services as jury members. There were two trials, one for each 10th grade English class.
