Week #22 - Great Day for Badger Basketball Boys on the Road!

Dave Levy, Athletic Director
Varsity Boys Basketball - Blue Ridge. Regents. Stuart Hall. The Boys Varsity Basketball team took on three tough opponents in three days, all on the road, and still had a lot of energy to take on Virginia's top team on the road last night in Staunton. Always ready for big games, Sin got the scoring going with a tough contested three in the corner! Stuart Hall had a huge back line, and Tandem matched their physicality by inserting Mason into the starting line up, who scored a difficult lay up early. While Stuart Hall was able to get out in transition, Sean walled up, playing excellent defense without fouling. The Badgers forced an early timeout for the opposition.

Trailing by 2, Tandem drew up a beautiful sideline out of bounds play during the timeout, and Quis demonstrated excellent body control as he got to the rim for a tough lay up. The game was tied at 9 before Stuart Hall hit a three at the top of the key. Unconcerned, Issac hit a big time three on the other end. After a strong rebound and put back for Keeman among the trees, the Badgers took a 14-12 lead into the second quarter.
Stuart Hall continued to work the perimeter, hitting two threes early in the second, but a lob to Isaac cut the Stuart Hall lead to two points. He caught fire - launching from each wing on consecutive possessions - and the Badgers tied the game at 21! Tre and Tre'Sean extended the defense before Stuart Hall went on a run to end the half, but Sin responded with a difficult floater, and the Badgers trailed 31-25 after 16:00.

Isaac and Sean worked beautifully together in the second half, executing a give and go, and working the ball inside. Isaac finished with 16 points to lead the Badgers, while Sean had 11. Sin, who had two strong buckets in the fourth, scored 9. The Badgers played the top teams in Division 1 (Blue Ridge) and in Division 3 (Stuart Hall) this week, separated only by a close battle at Regents, which Tandem won 74-61, scoring 28 points in the second quarter.

Great teams challenge themselves with elite competition, and Tandem is not afraid of anybody. Playing against greatness makes you better and the team continues to improve, and is well positioned for the home stretch! Very proud of your efforts this week - three away games in three days is serious business!

JV Boys Basketball

The JV Boys Basketball team is now an incredible 7-1, and they won twice this week - at Blue Ridge on Wednesday and again today against Stuart Hall. The backcourt duo of Derion (13 on Wednesday and 5 on Friday) and King (4 at Blue Ridge and and a season high 24 POINTS at Stuart Hall) create matchup nightmares for any opponent. King has been incredible lately, using his defense to create offense, getting into the passing lanes and stealing the ball from the opposing point guard as Coach George shouts "give me one! I need one!"

Then you have to deal with Dalin (8 and 12) and Mason (20 and 8) in the interior. And Levie gets all the rebounds! Sheesh! Dalin also loves to bring the ball up the court, draw fouls and get into the paint! Tandem has lots of JV players who push the pace: Jace earned multiple trips to the line at Blue Ridge, while Asher had ten yesterday mostly in transition (and two threes!). His transition drives were assisted by Levi, an excellent outlet passer.

Congratulations to the JV Badgers, one of the best JV teams I've ever seen.
