Week #24 - Sweep: JV and Varsity Boys Protect Home Court vs New Covenant!

Boys Varsity Basketball - Leaping higher than all the trees, "Playoff Sin" had already scored the first four points of the game tonight. Isaac drew the defense and found Sin open on the baseline to put Tandem ahead by 2, and Sin later knocked in a smooth floater to increase the lead to 4. He finished with 14 points, but his early rebound among New Covenant's front line - which featured two players six inches taller than him - was indicative of the level of effort Sin brought to the court tonight.

It was close early, with New Covenant making two threes and double teaming Sean defensively. Kemaan took advantage - driving coast to coast to give Tandem an 8-7 lead halfway through the first quarter. With the clock winding down, Sean fired a three from the outside - giving Tandem an 18-13 edge after eight minutes.
Sin was dominant defensively in the second quarter. He forced several NCS turnovers with his ball pressure, setting the tone for the defense. Quis showed off his lateral speed, locked on his opponent, earning a five second call! Later on, when Tandem switched to a trapping zone, Isaac and Quis combined to steal the ball away from NCS and create transition opportunities. That's when it happened.

Oscar described it as "the best high school dunk I've ever seen." Out of the trap, Quis stole the ball and pushed it ahead to Keeman, who spotted Isaac streaking down the left side of the court. He lobbed a pass up to Isaac - who absorbed defensive contact as he flew into the air. Suspended above the rim, Isaac cocked the ball back and threw it down, drawing a foul in the process! If you saw it live - you'll never forget it. If you saw the video - you'll never forget it. As tough as they come.

Isaac cashed in at the foul line, giving Tandem a 23-15 lead. The Badgers continued to send multiple defenders to the ball, and Isaac took advantage. He hit a deep three and then had a nimble euro-step for an and one. The Badgers led by 13. With time running out in the period, NCS had a 2 on 1 in transition. With the ball in the hands of one player, Isaac fought through a box out from the other, before blocking the ball into next week. After another interior lay up for Sean off a beautiful no look pass from Sin, the Badgers led 32-19 at halftime.

In the second half, after a full sixteen minutes of NCS forwards leaning on Sean, he brought the ball up instead. He knocked in an early three, nothing the defense can do about that, and added additional spacing. Quis had a very patient drive to the rim, setting up his defender, and finishing through contact. The Badgers added two big drives, an 11-4 run, as Kemaan and Sin both got to the rim and Tandem led 43-29.

NCS rallied, scoring several threes in a row. Before they were able to complete the comeback, Isaac blocked a shot deep in the corner! Tandem took an 11 point lead into the fourth quarter, 47-36. Tre started the fourth providing immense defensive pressure. Sin found Kemaan along the baseline for a smooth floater, before Quis had an and one! The Badgers led by 13.

NCS continued to compete, knocking in a few three point shots in the fourth. The Badgers were ready for it, and saved their best for last, scoring 24 points in the final period. Sean had seven of his seventeen, while Isaac hit two threes - each of the dagger variety - and finished with 19. Oh, and Quis had an incredible ally-oop dunk from Isaac late in the game! The Badgers earned a big time win as #11 TFS defeated #7 NCS 71-61. New rankings come out soon!

It's been a strange few weeks with snow and ice, but this group melted it all with their hot shooting this afternoon. Soaring above the rim, this was a big time win! The Badgers return to action at 6:00 on Wednesday vs Veritas for our Senior Day celebration!

JV Boys Basketball - For the 11th time this season, our JV Badgers dominated their opponent. The Badgers dominated from the start, with Jace spinning through the defense for an early lay up. With his back to the basket, Dalin found King cutting through traffic for an easy basket. Dalin was effective this afternoon as a passer and with his patented spin move to the rim.

Team speed was on display, as Asher played great defense, sticking right with his opponent defensively, and burning them to the basket on offense. Levie ran the court, getting open for some high quality shots and rebounds to boot!

Late in the half, Levi knocked in a three, and Nemanja was pumped! Derion followed it up with a three of his own, and then a tough layup in the paint with his inside hand. The Badgers took a double digit lead to halftime, with Mason scoring in double digits and drawing fouls along the way.

NCS battled back, but King literally dribbled through the entire defense to thwart the rally as the Badgers improved to 11-1. Congratulations to our JV Badgers! They have their final practice tomorrow, and then the last game at 4:30 on Wednesday vs Veritas in the Badger Den.
