Week #24 - JV Team Beats Veritas to Complete Nearly Perfect Season
JV Boys Basketball - Mason had fifteen of his seventeen points before the fourth quarter. He picked up an early foul in the final period, his fifth, and King took over a key leadership role in his stead. The Badgers led much of the period, including a 51-46 edge with four minutes to go. But Veritas kept the pressure on, going on a 7-0 run to take the lead at 53-51.
King responded with a steal at the top of the 2-3 zone, streaking the other way for a layup, and tying the game. With the Badgers tied at 53, Levie forced a miss on a shot from the short corner, and King came down with the rebound. On the ensuing possession, King drove to the basket, drew a foul, and gave Tandem the lead at the line 54-53.
The Badgers locked in on defense. On the next possession, Jace's pressure forced a turnover. A few possessions later, King forced a double dribble. They worked the ball around the perimeter, patiently, before Derion found Dalin for a tough layup.
The Badgers led by 1 with 35 seconds left, and Tandem took 18 seconds off the clock before King was fouled. He calmly went to the line and doubled the lead, giving Tandem a 57-55 edge with 17 seconds to go. On the other end, Veritas had one more opportunity to score, and drew a foul. They scored 1, and fouled the wrong guy on the next possession. Derion made both at the foul line, cementing Tandem's 12th win of the season! What a great game!
Congratulations to this extraordinary team - the 2025-26 Junior Varsity Badgers finished the season with a 12-1 record, including wins over Monticello (twice), Blue Ridge and Miller. Today, the Badgers had four scorers in double digits - Mason finished with 17, Dalin 16, King 11 and Derion 10. Throughout the season, the Badgers have gotten contributions from all eight of their players. Jace has been a steady point guard in the back court, and his spin move on Monday was smooth! Asher had a key layup late in today's ball game, Levie had several rebounds, and Levi has been a quality shooter - including his big three on Monday!
It's been a truly magical run for this team. They opened the season on the road, at Miller, and came away with a convincing win. Their home debut was against Monticello, and the Badgers scored 64 points in the victory. The team took on all challengers - and each was met with the same level of intensity. The Badgers finished with a 12-1 record, one of the best in Tandem history!
Congratulations to this extraordinary squad. Three cheers for Coach George, who has pushed all of their right buttons to help this team improve this season. He has been a role model and a tactician, putting the team in a position to succeed! It's a young team, with only three sophomores, and their future is incredibly bright! Well done, Badgers!
