September 7-11, 2026

It was an exciting week at Tandem Friends on many levels, despite the fact that it was only four days long. The weather was almost delightful at times. Our Varsity XC team debuted their season in the Ragged Mountain Cup to great results, including another first place for senior Hayes B, a fantastic boys relay result, and loads of personal bests (details below). The Middle School Boys Soccer team finally got to play a game after several rescheduled ones. The Upper School cast of Arcadia was announced, and Middle School drama students are already working on writing, acting, singing and dancing skills for their shows.

Parents and guardians were on campus en masse last night for Back-to-School Night, our favorite parent event of the year. Many thanks to all who attended to meet faculty and staff and spend a night in their student’s shoes attending all of their classes to learn about what’s already going on and what’s to come. They even enjoyed snack breaks! Check out some pictures from the evening in the Recent photos shared below.

5th graders have been excitedly creating handmade bookmarks to give to the adults in the community. They are lovely! 6th graders are learning what conflict is in literature. 7th graders are studying fractions and the characteristics of living things. 8th graders are learning the properties of math. In the Upper School, 9th graders are working on origin stories as they read The Odyssey. 10th graders are designing lab safety posters and working on ‘Project X.’ Juniors are writing reaction essays. Senior Comp students were introduced to college essays as they prepare for Senior Week and writing college essays of their own.

During today’s Community Time, Middle Schoolers enjoyed a Hispanic Heritage Month Speaker Series featuring a panel of Tandem teachers, students and parents - see details and photos below. This was the kickoff event for Hispanic Heritage Month.
