This Week at Tandem - 5/23/2025

The week was a little bit quiet on campus as Upper Schoolers (and some 8th graders in Upper School math classes), began exams this week (they will finish up on Tuesday). Some exams were very hands-on while others were more traditional. Both the 8th grade and the Upper School celebrated last weekend with dances - many thanks to the parents and staff who helped with decorations and food/drinks. Both events were lovely and well attended - check out a handful of photos below. The Varsity Track team competed in the state meet with great results - kudos especially for sophomore Hayes B for his big win in the 3200 meter race. Check out details and more results below. Thanks to all who perused Lost & Found this week - it will be out again before the end of the year, so do come and take a look.

In the Middle School, the boys and girls soccer teams practiced together on Monday and then had a boys vs girls game on Tuesday - lots of fun and camaraderie for all to end the year. 5th graders are tackling "Can we create a perfect farm?" while considering factors influencing the local climate, local plants (our garden) and agriculture they encountered daily, then explored the relationship between them to design a garden to thrive in local conditions. 6th graders are learning how to write argumentative essays. 7th graders in Drama class presented their Cafe 007 Part 3 to the Middle School on Thursday (photos below). 8th graders are finally sharing their board games based on the periodic table, debated about To Kill a Mockingbird (see details and photos below), and capped the week with an epic Mentos and soda experiment.

In the Upper School, 9th graders presented their amazing TED Talks during exam periods this week, and ran their egg car collisions (details and photos below). Sophomores presented their Socratic seminar work. Engineering students tested their boat designs and trebuchet creations during exam periods to exciting results (details and photos below). Seniors held a successful bake sale to raise funds for their class gift. Seniors Elana P and Riley B shared their artwork at an Art Capstone event on Wednesday night. If you have a moment on campus, stop by the Blue Room to see some amazing paintings, ceramics, and digital and photography projects.

Enjoy the Memorial Day holiday on Monday - see you on Tuesday!
