The Tandem Friends "portrait of a graduate" states that a Tandem graduate "strives to live a generous and authentic life." Class of 2025 graduate Sawyer R. took this to heart when he launched a fundraising effort to upgrade our Community Hall.
The Community Hall—one of Tandem's central hubs—hosts an array of school events and activities each year: morning meetings, end-of-year ceremonies, drama and musical performances, Meetings for Worship, classes, and more. As a passionate performer, Sawyer recognized that with some improvements, the space would better be able to serve students, families, and the entire Tandem Friends community.
Led by Sawyer's vision and in partnership with our generous community of donors, the Community Hall refresh project has now been completed. Future generations of Tandem students will reap the benefits of the revitalized space. Eco-friendly LED lighting brightens the space without compromising our commitment to good stewardship of the Earth. A new sound system and wireless microphones ensure that every performance and presentation can be heard clearly by audiences. New carpeting, chairs, and interior paint create a welcoming, comfortable environment. Behind the scenes, the performance space has received new stage curtains and shelving for props, costumes, and technical equipment. Additionally, reusable standard set pieces (such as acting blocks and stair units) were built for future theatrical productions.
This project shows just how impactful one voice can be when our community rallies behind it. Thank you, Sawyer, for your initiative. And thank you to everyone who contributed to equip this vital community space.
If you would like to support the arts at Tandem, please consider making a gift to our new Arts at Tandem multi-year fund, which was born out of this project.
