5th Graders Visit Fralin Art Museum for Writer's Eye
5th graders visited UVA’s Fralin Art Museum on Wednesday for a tour of this year’s Writer’s Eye art selections. This 40th year of the annual literary competition organized by the Fralin challenges students in grades 3-12 as well as adults to write original poetry or prose based on selected works of art in the museum. 5th graders enjoyed a guided tour of the the works in the competition this year - two objects from the museum's permanent collection and six works that are on loan. Students will choose one of the pieces as their muse, then write their art-inspired poetry or prose for submission to the area-wide writing contest. Written entries are due on November 12 and winners are announced in January and honored in the spring with cash prizes; five winners from each category will also have their writing published in the annual Writer's Eye anthology
