We are pleased to welcome Ed Hollinger as Head of Tandem Friends for 2016-17. Ed has had a distinguished career in transitional and Friends school leadership, having served as Interim Head at four different schools, including Virginia Beach Friends, and as founding director of the New Garden Friends Upper School.
Ed's other independent school leadership roles include Assistant Head, College Counselor, Guidance Counselor, and Athletic Director. Ed also has deep experience serving as an organizational consultant for individuals and schools.
Ed earned a Master’s Degree in Learning and Organization Change and a certification in Coaching and Organizational Leadership from Northwestern University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Temple University. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from Trinity College in Deerfield, Illinois and teaching certification from Franklin and Marshall College.
In a process that involved faculty, parents, students, alumni, trustees, and administrators, Tandem identified the key qualities we hoped to find in our Interim Head, and we believe that Ed Hollinger embodies all of them. As a leader, Ed is incisive and confident, yet warm and approachable, and he uses the best practices set out by the National Association of Independent Schools to foster team-building, communication, and accountability in service to the school’s mission. Ed is committed to upholding the unique spirit and traditions of Tandem Friends School, and will be a tremendous asset to our school community in the coming months as we undertake the search for our permanent head.
