Week #4: MS Badgers vs CCS: Tight Battles on the Field and Court!

Dave Levy, Athletic Director
Middle School Boys Soccer

Middle School Soccer began way back on the first day of school! Since that time, this team has put in the work! These Badgers have focused on passing, trapping, dribbling, shooting, spacing and defensive positioning. Today, as they took the field in uniform for the first time, Tandem worked together as they pushed their opponent to the brink.
Right off the opening kickoff, Will made an early push. He dribbled around his defender, passed a smooth through ball to Eli, who went on the attack right toward the box. Tandem wouldn't allow CCS to clear the ball - Aven sent the ball wide to Ryan, who found Luke streaking into the box. Luke kept the pressure on his opponent, working with Isaiah and Henry, who showed off some fancy footwork.

The game was tied for most of the first half - and a lot of that was due to Jayceon's work on the goal! Jayceon was quick to the pipes when CCS got loose for a shot, and Elias, Dylan and Eric were in excellent position to defend their zone. With the ball cleared out to Trenton - he had it on a string in the middle. Trenton dribbled around his competition, finding Will for a laser-beam style shot!

Later in the half, with CCS on the move, it was Cord and Cal who flipped the momentum - sending the ball to Jailen, who worked it back to midfield. Other highlights featured the fancy footwork of Jackson, Arden's strong presence on the back line, and Charlie's powerful right foot which constantly changed the momentum.

That momentum was clearly moving in Tandem's direction, and even though the Badgers lost out on some game time, they worked very well together - already in mid-season form. The Badgers return to action on Thursday at 4pm - also at home - against James River. See you on the hill!

MS Girls Volleyball

The Badgers won their fifth consecutive set on the strength of Adela's serve and Zuri's powerful hitting, as the team rallied from a six point deficit! They carried that momentum for the rest of the match. After an incredible save from Chloe and a set from Adela, Zoe delivered a hit so powerful that it left a permanent mark on the floor!

Annie has been working hard to improve - including hours with the ball at home - and her entrance in the second set gave the team a boost! Zuri had both powerful serves and incredible dives to dig the ball of the ground, Rory saved the ball from an impossible angle, and delivered a sequence of aces - her serve is both consistent and intimidating! Working closely with Sam, Clara and Aurelia, Rory broke up a CCS service run, and Hadley took advantage with a few aces of her own!

In the third set, Aggie mashed her first serve of the season. Retta had several big hits, one of them off a smooth pass from Cora, and Willa had a powerful kill right over the net. Cora and Retta each earned their first aces of the season from the service line, and Freya had a smooth pass as well. Oliver was working closely with Hattie on the sidelines to get her up to speed as she joined the team just this week!

The Badgers have been incredible this season - each set determined by less than five points - and they have remained incredibly strong, patient and resilient! They'll play their next three set match on Thursday at 4pm vs James River at Tandem in the Badger Den. See you then!
