Week #23 - Badgers Compete Hard in Tough Double Header

MS Girls Basketball - Always in the right place at the right time, Zoey deflected fourteen different passes during the first quarter. Even the officials commented on how she was always on the floor, hustling for loose balls. She turned that effort into a big scoring night - seven points, a new career high!

With excellent execution, the Badgers did a fine job getting the ball into the paint. For the second day in a row, the team enjoyed lots of high percentage shot attempts, with our trio of Zuri, Sunrise and Cora getting deep into the paint. Sunrise and Cora each had a bunch of rebounds - and deflections - and proved to be quite the presence! Zuri set the tone defensively - quarterbacking our half court defense with clear communication on the court and in the huddle.
Down 16-6 after the first quarter, Tandem had an explosive second half, scoring more points in the third quarter than the first two combined. Hadley, who spent a lot of energy defending the CDS skilled point guard, got loose for a key layup. Zuri had an important offensive rebound and putback, and Zoey scored in the paint. Then, in the fourth quarter, Sam drove to the middle and earned a trip to the line, where she added two points to go with her six rebounds and three blocks!

Hattie has become skilled at forcing the opponent to their weak side, and her presence in the top of the press was critical. Raquel did it all - she made great decisions as the inbounds passer, rebounded long rebounds, and continued to protect her space on the block! The MS Girls have continued to improve - we scored more points than in our home game vs CDS, and more in the second half than the first. Also, Tandem held CDS to just 3 points in the second half, and none in the third quarter! Well done, Badgers!

MS Boys Basketball - The Badgers were down 10-4 after the first quarter and 21-14 at the half. Ready to flip the momentum, Isaiah made a beautiful pass from the wing to the middle. Trenton turned, took on a much larger defender, and scored. The Badgers cut the lead to 1. Jayceon scored on the next possession, patiently working the middle of the zone, and suddenly Tandem was in the lead! After a key rebound on the other end from Aven, Trenton looked off his defender, and snuck into the middle for a floater - the Badgers led 31-26!

This sequence defines the skill and patience that makes our Middle School Boys Basketball team extraordinary. Double team in the post? That leaves Kai open - who cashed in on a deep three pointer - and also hit both free throws in the third quarter. Trap on the wing? Well then the Badgers will throw a smooth skip pass - and there is Eli - or Ryan - for yet another triple!

Defensively, the Badgers were tough in the third quarter, allowing only nine points. Will was strong defensively and Landon had a big rebound - outletting a pass to Kai, who drew his defender in. Kai passed the ball to Bo, who found Elias on the baseline, forcing the defense to collapse on the left! On the other end, it was Odin snagging rebounds, while Gabriel's presence forced several CDS misses.

The Badgers took the lead late into the fourth quarter. It was an amazing comeback for a team that trailed by double digits early on! Well done, Tandem - what a game!
