  • Senior Volleyball Players Honored at Senior Night

After Tuesday's varsity Volleyball game against Veritas, the five senior players were honored on their Senior Night, usually celebrated at the final regular season home game for a team. Seniors Maya, Ginger, Catriona, Althea and Zella received baskets of treats from their teammates, who also made a sign for each of the players. Senior players were spoken about individually by coach Anna Warren and then were joined by family members for photos. Many thanks to these senior players for their dedication to Badger sports and to volleyball. Congratulations!
  • Week #9 - Big Week for MS Soccer and Volleyball

    Dave Levy, Athletic Director
MS Boys Soccer - Defensively, the Middle School Boys Soccer team had an incredible start to their game on the road at Saint Anne's on Wednesday. Gabriel was everywhere, beating opponents to the ball, while Silas worked hard on the back end. Bo and Elias forced the ball wide, and Eli had several nice tackles to gain possession. Floyd was incredible in goal - several excellent saves! Will's speed was incredible, darting across the field, and erasing scoring opportunities for the other side. He earned a free kick, sending the ball deep to Trenton. On the other end, Casey, Will and Eric worked together defensively, Eric bolting in at full speed to tackle the ball away.

Saint Anne's had an early goal, but Tandem responded with Eli and Trenton making a big push. Jonathan got it started, tackling the ball out of the box and sending it ahead to Yosi. Late in the game, the Badgers had a breakaway and Silas took a powerful shot, resulting in a Tandem corner.

MS Girls Volleyball - Loud and enthusiastic, the Middle School Girls Volleyball Badgers arrived in the gym ready to play. The team organized themselves into hitting lines and worked on their serves, just as they have been in practice. Early in the first set, Willa set Rory for a big hit! With Rory at the service line, the Badgers took an early 7-2 lead, resulting in a Peabody timeout. On the next rally, Annie made an excellent pass to Rory who returned the favor as Willa had a big hit!

  • Senior Runner Ranked #1, Boys Team #5 in Ragged Mountain Poll

The Ragged Mountain Cross Country Poll of Central Virginia high schools came out with its first weekly poll of the season and Tandem senior runner Hayes B was ranked number 1 in the Central Virginia/Daily Progress area. Tandem's boys team was ranked 5th. Alec Lorenzoni of Ragged Mountain called Hayes “one of the most underrated runners in the country.” Based on votes by area coaches, the Ragged Mountain weekly poll ranks the top 15 individuals and top 5 teams from the Central Virginia/Daily Progress area. Check out the details of the poll here. Congratulations to Hayes and the boys team!

  • Week #8 - Elite Passing Generates Scoring Changes for Boys Varsity Soccer, MS Cross Country Earns Big PRS at Darden Towe

Boys Varsity Soccer - Shaan earned a free kick on the left side of the field at the 33:00 mark of the first half. He reared back and fired a perfect pass to Aven, who controlled the ball and wound up for a powerful shot. The goalie saved it, but was rattled, and Tandem kept the pressure on. Even when Regents was able to move the ball into the Tandem zone, Eli took over, tackling it away and sending it up the line to Levi. Working closely with Seth, Levi was able to generate lots of scoring opportunities. He passed the ball to Aven, who faked up the line and worked back towards the middle.

The team continued with a great attack - 87 passes in the first and 93 in the second - Eli passed the ball wide to Seth who found Shaan in the middle. Shaan, off one touch, found Levi in the middle for a shot. It was the first of many - moments later was Shaan from 30 feet, and Van from the 18'. On defense, William, Luke and Mason held the line. They either drew the opponent offsides or just took the ball away, eliminating breakaway opportunities. On one occasion, Mason tackled the ball away and found Shaan in the middle. As Zoey described it, Shaan did a "super technical step over hesi," and I am not sure that even gives it enough credit.

  • Week #7 - Middle School Cross Country Dominates 2nd Annual Monticello Mountain Meet!

    Dave Levy, Athletic Director
Middle School Cross Country - As they rounded the final curve, Rowan and an opposing runner were separated by no more than an inch. With a mile and half behind them, Rowan's intensity was clear: she put in a big spurt as the two runners took on the final incline, and the last quarter mile was all downhill. The Peabody runner made a corresponding move, and he took the lead for just an instant, before Rowan found another gear with an unbelievable effort! As she broke the tape, Rowan narrowly edged out her competition, earning a course PR of 16:10 - blazing fast for a two mile race on a challenging course!

Only moments earlier, the two athletes introduced themselves and shook hands. Prior to the start of the race, Coach Julia gathered the runners from both teams - the Badgers and Panthers - or "Banthers" if you will - and after a moment of silence, she encouraged them to introduce themselves to one another. After all, camaraderie and competition go hand in hand, especially in the running community, and it was wonderful to see the two teams come together. The first Monticello Mountain Meet was held last September, designed to give our Tandem Middle School Badgers an opportunity to test out what it is like to compete. Julia traveled over to the Monticello trails and designed a fun and challenging two mile course for the team to traverse! We had such a successful experience last season that we invited another team to the mix, our South Charlottesville neighbors, and it was a lot of fun as Tandem and Peabody went head to head for the 2nd Annual Monticello Mountain Meet.
