On May 25, Tandem Friends hosted a Senior Sports Signing/Commitment Event honoring a record number of student athletes signing to play college sports in a single year at Tandem Friends School! Four of our seniors and their families gathered for the signing, as well as students who gathered on the front lawn to watch during lunch. Congratulations to Mason Love (George Mason University, D1 cross country and track), Julia Dailey (Connecticut College, D3 volleyball), Ford Scott (Washington and Lee University, D3 basketball), and Sophie Farr (Vassar College, D3 cross country and track). We're so proud of their academic and athletic successes and wish them the best of luck in this next chapter.
Check out a lengthy Daily Progress article that features each student's thoughts on what it means to them to move on to college-level play. And check out the photos as well.
Tandem runners had a strong showing at the Mint Springs Trail 5K on May 8. Senior Mason Love came in first overall out of a field of 200 people in various age groups. Sophomore Michael O'Neill came in third overall. Senior Sophie Farr finished second in her age group and set a big personal record on that course. According to coach Jason Farr, 'This is a tough course and these kids crushed it!' Additionally, Mason Love ran unattached (no school team competitions this year due to COVID) at the recent Ragged Mountain Cup and made it into the top 15. Congratulations to Tandem runners for making the very best of a challenging year. Good luck to Mason and Sophie, who will be running for George Mason University and Vassar College, respectively, next year!
We're proud to announce that Tandem senior Mason Love has verbally committed to the George Mason University D1 cross country and track team for college. Mason made All-State, earned DAC runner of the year in both 2018 and 2019 and helped the team become DAC champions. He finished 3rd at the VISSA state meet in 2019 and was poised to compete for first this year. Mason was a key member of Tandem's state-winning 4x800 relay team in 2019, a state runner up in the outdoor 3200 meter run in 2019 and a 2020 state runner up in the indoor 3200 meter run. Congratulations, Mason!
We are proud to share that senior Julia Dailey recently committed to attending and playing volleyball at Connecticut College in New London, CT. A standout team member at Tandem Friends, last year Julia racked up 61 aces, 61 kills and 137 digs, earning her Co-Conference Player of the Year status in the Delaney Athletic Conference. Her high school career totals of 248 kills and 356 digs are impressive, too. Julia excels academically as well and looks forward to the balance of rigorous academics and competitive sports that drew her to Connecticut College, where she plans to tackle a biology/pre-med track. Congratulations, Julia! See what The Daily Progress recently shared by clicking here.
We're proud to announce that Tandem Friends senior Ford Scott has committed to attending and playing basketball at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. Ford, a 6'-7" forward for the Badgers, last year averaged 10.2 points per game (with a career-high 23 points against Seton), 7.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists. A true scholar-athlete at Tandem, Ford's feels drawn by both the rigorous academics and the quality of the basketball program at W&L. Congratulations, Ford! Hear more from Ford about his choice in a recent Daily Progress article.
