Week #8 - Elite Passing Generates Scoring Changes for Boys Varsity Soccer, MS Cross Country Earns Big PRS at Darden Towe

Boys Varsity Soccer - Shaan earned a free kick on the left side of the field at the 33:00 mark of the first half. He reared back and fired a perfect pass to Aven, who controlled the ball and wound up for a powerful shot. The goalie saved it, but was rattled, and Tandem kept the pressure on. Even when Regents was able to move the ball into the Tandem zone, Eli took over, tackling it away and sending it up the line to Levi. Working closely with Seth, Levi was able to generate lots of scoring opportunities. He passed the ball to Aven, who faked up the line and worked back towards the middle.

The team continued with a great attack - 87 passes in the first and 93 in the second - Eli passed the ball wide to Seth who found Shaan in the middle. Shaan, off one touch, found Levi in the middle for a shot. It was the first of many - moments later was Shaan from 30 feet, and Van from the 18'. On defense, William, Luke and Mason held the line. They either drew the opponent offsides or just took the ball away, eliminating breakaway opportunities. On one occasion, Mason tackled the ball away and found Shaan in the middle. As Zoey described it, Shaan did a "super technical step over hesi," and I am not sure that even gives it enough credit.
Before the half ran out, Seth forced a corner, Cord passed the ball beautifully with Van, and Aven had an excellent cross to Seth, who got a foot on the ball but it would not go in.

It was 0-0 at halftime, but Tandem had far more scoring opportunities. It would be twenty minutes into the second half before anybody scored, Regents getting a goal on a rare breakaway. The Badgers wasted zero time in tying it up - as Levi got into the middle, got tripped, earned himself a penalty kick which he scored easily - shooting left under the arms of a diving goalie.

Regents had a few opportunities thereafter, but Levie always forced them into a tough angle, and their shots went wide. He also had an elite diving save, poking the ball wide of the goal. On the ensuing possession, Shaan flicked the ball into the box - Seamus was there - and put it in - but was called for obstruction.

Regents would add a goal with 20 to go, and the Badgers kept pressure on. Shaan set up Cord for a big shot - resulting in a corner. Cord also worked with Levi and Van, who fired one on goal. Shaan found Seamus again, and Regents made a tough save. In total, Tandem fired 16 shots on goal.

The Badgers played an excellent game this afternoon - great passing - lots of chances generated - and, as Coach Nile put it "they held their defensive shape!"

Middle School Cross Country - The Darden Towe hill can be daunting. When discussing it with the team, Julia reminding them to push through the hill and never stop when you're on it. That can be harder said than done - but the Badgers have trained on challenging hills at PVCC, at Tandem, and they even took on some very tough hills at the Monticello Mountain Meet last week.

Their hard work paid off - Robert (12:54) dropped TWO MINUTES off his time from last week, earning 41st place in a deep field. Clyde (13:49) finished with a bang, passing an opponent right at the line. His time drops him under 14:00 - an impressive milestone - and is OVER A MINUTE faster than his time from Monticello. Working closely with Fletcher (13:54), the duo showed off the depth of this team - three athletes under 14:00 is serious business. Fletcher ran a ONE MINUTE FORTY SECONDS FASTER than he did a week ago!

James, running even splits and finishing in 14:35, dropped a full minute! Everett (16:29) and Daniel (17:26) worked together. For Everett, his time was THREE MINUTES faster than his 2025 Mountain Meet, while Daniel dropped TWO MINUTES AND FORTY SECONDS off his time!

The MS Boys had an average time of 14:20, very impressive on this challenging course! On the girls side, April's impressive ONE MINUTE PR of 14:49 placed her 36th overall! Throughout the race, April maintained an even pace, showing a strong confidence that can only come from a lot of hard work. Rowan (15:28) was right on her heels, dropping 40 seconds off her time from Monticello as well! Eleanor (16:05) - has been consistent all season. She dropped ONE MINUTE AND FIFTEEN SECONDS, as she is constantly improving - learning new race tactics to go with her endurance. Cleo came through in 17:00 even, a course PR, while WIllow closed the scoring door in 20:16 - FOUR MINUTES AND FORTY FOUR SECONDS FASTER THAN at Monticello! Emma (21:58) dropped THREE MINUTES, and flew up that hill!

The MS Girls Cross Country team showed off their talent and depth - defeating local competition including STAB, Covenant, CDS, William Monroe, Peabody and Journey! Congratulations on an incredible day full of massive PRs!
