It was an occasionally wet but blissfully cooler week at Tandem Friends during this four-day week. The rain cancelled a practice and a game or two, but nothing that can’t be made up. Faculty and staff returned on Tuesday to Atlas Coffee from the Robertson family - thanks for that. There was a Virtual Office Hour offered with College Counselor Ben Brown. Busses came and went as part of Middle School Experience Days and it was a bit quieter without our Middle Schoolers.
After one relatively ‘normal’ day on campus with the whole community, our Middle School students then enjoyed their three Experience Days of adventures. The 8th grade ventured to Washington, DC, 7th graders took on a 4H camp in Jamestown, and 5th and 6th graders bonded through their adventures in Richmond, including a ‘night at the museum.’ Middle Schoolers looked tired but happy when they returned to campus - sure indicators of good Experience Days outcomes. More details and photos from each grade's activities are provided in the This Week in Review section below.
Upper Schoolers enjoyed having the campus mostly to themselves for a few days as they got back into the academic routine after their Experience Days. Rehearsals for Arcadia resumed. There were eight visits from college representatives. Upper Schoolers spent today's Community Time on Senate elections of class representatives (watch for details). Congratulations to all who were nominated and gave speeches. Six seniors were recognized as commended National Merit Scholars (details below). Development Director Tiffany Norman spoke to an advanced Spanish class - in Spanish - about growing up in Honduras. Sports games and practices got back on track, with Varsity Volleyball defeating Wakefield Country Day School at home, and a great Varsity XC showing at the FUMA meet. There are several varsity games this afternoon - see sports details below.
