Week #10 - Varsity Boys Soccer Gives Excellent Effort on Small Field

Dave Levy, Athletic Director
Varsity Boys Soccer - After their muddy 5-1 victory on Tuesday, the Varsity Boys Soccer team hosted Miller on Friday afternoon - on a small field - which put their defense to the test. Levie, now in his second season as the starting goalie, showed incredible maturity - he was constantly communicating instructions to his defense, and to his strikers, who he set up for success on the other end! In front of the net, Luke was relentless, taking away angles, and tackling the ball from opposing strikers. After Luke forced the a goal kick, Levie fired the ball ahead to Seth who worked closely with Van and had a scoring chance off a header in the both.

Miller scored early, but Shaan flipped the field with amazing footwork, able to make a turn and set up Aven and Otis on the outside. Moments later, Levi earned a free kick, passing over to Shaan who found Seth for a great shot! On the other end, Mason and Seamus were strong and physical defensively.
The Badgers played an excellent opening half, and got strong effort from their bench in the second. Charlie and Jackson each won the ball from their defender, and Cord was everywhere, forcing the ball up the line.  Shaan earned a free kick after a defending slide tackled him, and was able to turn that into a corner. Van took the corner, putting the ball in the box!

The Badgers had several excellent second half pushes - Levi a shot from the 18', Seamus with a beautiful through ball to Seth, and Levi an excellent pass to Seth with a strong first touch! Towards the end, Shaan had a beautiful cross along the goal line to Jackson - an excellent scoring opportunity created!

While the Badgers had to adjust to a tighter game on a smaller field, the team gave it 100% - massive sprint bursts to the ball - pushing a tough Miller team for 80 minutes. The team will be back in action next week a lot!

Fishburne needed to move the Tuesday, 10/27 game - which was supposed to be Senior Day.  We ended up moving it to Friday, 10/23 at 4:30 - Tandem Day - which means the day team will have a lot of support from the community, and we'll celebrate Senior Day on that day - Friday, 10/23, which will mark the end of the season. I do not normally schedule 3 games in a week, but it's important to celebrate this excellent group of seniors, and we've already had a few games cancelled this season. Please make a note on your calendar to be there on 10/23 for a Senior ceremony following the game.
