The engine that makes the offense run, Annie was dominant at the point of attack. For the defense, it was a multiple choice question:
a) play #14 straight up, and risk her getting past for a lay up
b) give #14 space, and watch as her 15-foot jump shot sails into the basket
c) guard #14 closely, but realize nobody is fast enough to guard her without fouling. And then she'll make the free throws.
d) it doesn't matter, #14 is too good.
I'd probably encourage my players to try option a, but Annie scored seven in the first period against that type of defense anyways. She also kept her eyes up, found Aoife open on the block, and set Aoife up for another strong game. Quantico is already shaking their heads as they try to figure out how to defend her tomorrow.
When the second unit entered the game, the Badgers didn't miss a beat. Improving dramatically, Alice played her best game of the season! WCDS tried to pass the ball ahead to their point guard, but Alice stole the pass, and dribbled to the basket for an open shot. She was not done there - on the next possession - Sophie showed off her court vision, setting up Alice for another smooth looking jumper. What a game for Alice! Lucie had an epic steal, cutting off her competition, while Maeve and Leelee both boxed out for rebounds - and Leelee brought the ball up the court!
In the second half, Sophie got her offense going. She had eight points in the paint before testing out her outside jump shot - a three pointer - and the bank was open! Sophie scored 11 points, a career high, the first of many double digit games to come. I'm calling it here first folks, Sophie is going to be an absolute star at the guard position - so stay tuned!
Maeve continued her strong performance with an awesome pass to Marilyn for two of her four points, both layups, Nina had an awesome rebound, and Catriona made a beautiful jump shot - right at the buzzer - to end the third quarter!
Tandem scored FORTY ONE POINTS, the highest point total for our badgers in THREE YEARS. I am so proud of this hardworking squad! The Varsity Girls are on a three-game win streak, and they return to action tomorrow at 4:00 on the road in a rematch against Quantico. Congratulations, Badgers! Keep it rolling!

In the time it takes most players to jump once, Quis has already jumped twice. Furthermore, he is at eye level with the rim, so when WCDS was lucky enough to force a Tandem miss - Quis was there to put it right back in. He had four points that way on consecutive possessions, and a smooth three, eventually finishing with 11 points. Quis was one of six Badgers in double digits tonight.
The Badgers created match-up problems all over the court, with Isaac's mile long euro-step strides galloping through the paint. The team was up 10-5 when WCDS decided on option B from above when guarding Sean - and he launched a beautiful three pointer right through the rim. His highlights tonight also included a lightning quick spin move on the block and a beautiful give and go exchange with Isaac who slammed the ball through the rim with force! Sportscenter Top Ten, here we come!
Keeman and Tre both took on new roles today - key minutes off the bench - and were too much for the competition. Keeman posted up opposing guards and made them look awfully small. Strong and efficient, he earned eight trips to the line, finished with 13 points, and was very difficult to guard. As for Tre, running the point, he set up his teammates with full-court passes for layups. When he had the ball in his hands, Tandem was humming - sometimes because he showed off an incredible spin move in traffic or a euro step across the paint and finished with his left hand. Oh and lest we forget the fake on his three point attempt - sending the defender flying by - as he then lined up a beautiful outside shot! Other times, he set up Derion for either and one opportunities in the paint or one of Derion's three triples - such a beautiful stroke from the outside. Both players finished in double digits!
Sin's passing was smooth tonight, too, as always, and he threw a beautiful no-look to Quis for an and one in the second half. There were lots of assists to go around, Miles finding Mason in the post, or Tre setting up a cutting Shaan, who also finished with a number of steals.
In the final period, Isaac blocked three consecutive WCDS shots, Tre threw an unbelievable full court pass to Keeman, Anthony had a massive block, Sean found Tre'Sean with a no-look pass and Seamus deflected four passes. The Badgers dominated their opponent - finishing with 99 points for their third straight victory - and they will continue the excitement tomorrow at Quantico at 5:30 on the road.
Thanks to our wonderful community for all of the support this evening! And to Jocelyn, Dev, Zuri and Emory for their hard work at the table!
