Week #24 - Varsity Girls Badgers Complete Sweep of Foxcroft on Senior Day!

With intense defense, including Sophie's back-to-back steals, three minutes went by without a basket. Aoife had her eighth and ninth blocks of the night - an absurd total - and Annie stole the ball from her point guard counterpart. Foxcroft went to the line with 4:00 to go, and made both foul shots, cutting the lead to 30-27. That's when Aoife took over. 

 

Aoife has had an epic season. Only a ninth grader, she has been one of our leaders in blocks, steals, assists, rebounds AND points! Defenses swarm around her - and tonight there was a lot of contact in the paint. Aoife used halftime to reset, and when the Badgers needed her most, she stepped up! Annie looked up and saw Aoife streaking down the court - Aoife scored a beautiful layup with perfect footwork, giving Tandem a 32-27 lead. After a three pointer from Foxcroft cut the lead to 32-30, Aoife stole the ball out of a sideline out of bounds play, went the length of the floor, and scored again! The Badgers won 36-30, sweeping the season series with Foxcroft and earning a 4-5 conference record!

 

The Badgers got contributions all over their roster tonight. Julia and Maeve each made their first start of the season, and Maeve assisted Juli for Tandem's first field goal of the night. Julia forced the ball away from Foxcroft's point guard, resulting in Annie stealing the ball and attacking the rim with a purpose! 

 

Late in the first quarter, Marilyn got into a rhythm! First she stole the ball and threw an outlet pass to Annie, who earned a trip to the line. It was 11-11 after 1, and Marilyn scored all three of Tandem's second quarter points - a key free throw and a beautiful fifteen foot jump shot - exactly what she has been working on!

 

With Foxcroft leading by four at the half, the Badgers flipped the momentum with a barrage of offense in the third. Maya had a layup, Aoife scored off the glass and later assisted Hadley, and Maya made the aforementioned buzzer beater!

 

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Badgers, and to their Seniors, for a big win on Senior Night! The team earned their sixth win of the season, and is well positioned for an exciting run in the playoffs! The action begins Tuesday, but the location and time are still to be determined. Congratulations on a great regular season, Badgers! And congrats to Julia and Maeve!
