Varsity Lacrosse and MS Soccer Make for a Fun Day on the Field!
Dave Levy, Athletic Director
Varsity Boys Lacrosse - There were thirty seconds remaining in the third period as Oscar passed the ball to Henry on the left side of the field. Henry cradled it, cut to the middle, and worked the ball across the crease to Luca. With fifteen seconds to go, Luca got the ball back to Oscar who was already on the run. Using a low arm angle, Luca fired the ball just right between the legs of the goalie, ending an exciting third period in which Tandem held FA to just two goals, and the Badgers trailed 2-1.
Tandem's lacrosse season began way back in the summer - lots of Badgers arrived on campus to train in the heat of July - and have continued to do so over the course of the winter and into the spring. Our talented contingent of eighth graders - Griffin, Luke, Tim and Levi - have truly given it their all, learning new skills and different facets of the game.
This afternoon, the Badgers took the field for the first time. Anthony was incredibly physical, knocking the ball loose, scooping it up and passing it ahead to Mason. While FA scored a few goals early, the Badgers got going late in the first period, with Henry assisting Oscar to cut the deficit to three. Oscar had a heck of an afternoon, scoring four goals.
Levi worked incredibly hard defending FA's attack. Griffin positioned himself well in the middle and stick-checked the opponent, and Seamus scooped up the ball, setting up a Tandem breakaway.
Between the pipes, Eli was incredible. FA took a lot of shots, and Eli took away shooting angles, knocking tons of them aside and setting up the Tandem offense the other way. Eli has been working year round - and has become a very strong goalie! Well done, Eli!
The Badgers kept their opponent in check in the second half, giving up only four goals, including just two in the third period. The team showed great effort and will continue to improve through the season.
Middle School Girls Soccer - When addressing Tandem's first goal of the season, Coach Lauren remarked "I feel like they did it together! It was real teamwork in action!" Zoey worked her way into the box and launched a rocket right at the defender. It deflected off her leg, towards Sam, who did the rest - as the ball found the back of the net! The Badgers leveled the score 1-1 in a solid game against Waldorf this afternoon.
Tandem brought pressure right from the beginning, as Willa was aggressively pushing the ball up the line! Nora patrolled the left side of the field, and when she centered it for Sunrise - look out! Sunrise showed off all of her power, sending the ball deep into the box!
Defensively, Oliver played quarterback, helping the Badger back four know exactly where to be. April continued her relentless play, knocking the ball away from the attack. Behind them, Emma had a sequence of incredible saves and was able to flip the field by sending it to Francesca and Freya.
Late in the game, the Juno to Zoey connection was alive and well, including an awesome moment where Juno dribbled past the midline and sent the ball over to Zoey, who found Sunrise open. Sunrise smashed the ball into the box to Sam; what an incredible way to finish out the game!
The Badgers played a strong game today - getting on the scoreboard - and showing off great improvement! Well done team!
