Fifth grade students are diving into mapping. They learned about GIS data and used it to plan a fictional park in a city. Next, they will make a map of the Tandem campus and, using GIS data such as population density and foot traffic patterns, figure out the best place for a food truck to be located. Sixth graders are solidly into their unit on the origins and practice of Judaism. They are taking notes and participating in open-ended, inquiry- and evidence-based class discussions about the intersection of religious beliefs, historical realities, and community in ancient societies. In 6th grade math, students are learning about integer operations, starting with adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers, using things like cornhole scoring and hot air balloon games to help them!
