Week #35: Outstanding Day for Tandem Athletics!

Ultimate Frisbee, Girls Varsity Soccer, Varsity Track and Field and Middle School Track and Field were all on the road this afternoon. In their final regular season game, the Girls Varsity Soccer team dominated Quantico 5-1! Ruthie led the way with a HAT TRICK!!!!!! while Althea and Hadley also added key goals! The Girls Varsity Soccer team returns home on Monday, May 4 at 4:15 for the GPAC Quarterfinals - and they will host Quantico in a rematch. Let's pack the hill and support the squad!

The Dogwood Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia, is one of the most competitive meets on the East Coast. As Coach Ned stated "how incredible is it that all of our athletes had their best performances on the same day?!" In the 3200 Meters, Miles ran a 1:09 first lap - incredibly fast - and took the lead in a talented Varsity Track and Field heat. Aware of the weather, Miles made the decision to drop back in the pack, allowing his competition to break the wind, as he settled into a lightning quick pace. For reference, Miles hit the mile mark in 5:00 flat, and fourth place. With two laps to go, he began to move up, steadily. At the 600 meter mark, the lead pack was down to three, with Miles looking calm and in control. As he rounded the final curve, Miles took off, moving into a gold medal position as he blew past his competition. The runner in second sighed as if to say "there's no way I can keep up with him now!" That was true for the entire field - over 20 runners - as Miles won his heat in an incredibly prestigious race. His time of 10:02 is extraordinary - a big PR - and a result of the fact that he, as Miles would say is "locked in on running." Without a doubt!

The 3200 was the second event of the day for Miles, who also anchored the Sprint Medley relay. The team was lightning fast - Nari was quick out of the blocks and made a smooth pass to Kemaan, who ran a blazing fast second leg and kept the team in a strong position. Gabriel, our 400 meter specialist, ran a PR in the middle of a relay, and Miles brought it home with his 800 meter leg! The team ran 3:50.02 - smashing the old school record! Congratulations to the incredible Sprint Medley Relay team of Nari, Kemaan, Gabriel and Miles!

It was a special day for our 3200 Meter runners. When you wear Tandem across your chest, every other athlete takes notice. "Is that Peter Wilberger?" one athlete asked. "Isn't he part of the three time VISAA State Cross Country champions?" Yes, and Peter was on fire today, running 10:13.33 and dropping ten seconds off a PR he established just last weekend! In the next heat, Brendan broke 11:00 - his time of 10:58 is a new PR as well - and he passed four runners in the home stretch as he honed in on being the best ever version of himself! Jack Johnson did the same, his time of 11:05 is a six second PR - and it also qualifies him for VISAA State Championships! Congratulations, Jack!

Lucy has been working hard on running even splits - and she was incredibly consistent today as she moved up throughout the race - and flew by several competitors in the home stretch! Her time of 13:09 is a new PR - representative of the fact that she has been flying in practice alongside Claire! With a time of 13:50, Claire broke 14:00 easily and achieved a season PR! She has been so strong and consistent! Congratulations to all of our 3200 Meter Runners!

Want more? The Varsity Track and Field action continues tomorrow when Hayes and Jack B take the track for the Seeded Section of the 3200 Meter run at 6:45! Don't miss it!

The next generation of speedy Badgers, the Middle School Track and Field team, had an exciting day at the Fluvanna Invitational. William, running the 200 Meter Hurdles for the first time, cleared all ten with ease! He finished 4th/19 runners in a time of 33.62!  He was busy today!! Eleanor also showed off her explosive ability in the 100 Meter Hurdles, finishing in a new PR of 26.57!

In the sprints, Ellie's 100 Meter time of 15.47 is .3 faster than her performance at the Dash on the Grass! Congrats to Ellie who also ran 33.8 in the 200! Cora (16.1 in the 100, 37 in the 200), Aggie (17.2) and Sage (17.8 in the 100, 38.5 in the 200) also established new PRs in the sprint events!  On the boys side, Gabriel flew through the line in a time of 13.62 while Eric continues to impress - he ran 14.1! William, not tired after his hurdle performance, ran 29.5 in the 200!

Those Badgers worked together in relays as well - they've done lots of fun relays at Tandem and put that effort to good use this afternoon! Ellie, Aggie, Cora and Sage ran 1:08 in the 4x100, while the Tandem boys came through in :57!

In the 3200, Fay ran an incredible 16:08 - dropping FORTY FOUR SECONDS off her time at Western earlier this season! Congratulations Fay - patient and consistent! Well done! Ethan's 5:27 in the mile is a huge PR, leading the way for the Badger Milers! His goal was to break 5:30 - and he made it look easy! Tandem has an amazing day in the distance events - Ryan ran 6:31 (a 30 second PR)! He worked closely with Andrew (6:36) and James (6:58)! That's four Badgers under 7:00! Eleanor, who had already hurdled, finished in a blazing fast 7:24! In the 800, Landon broke 3:00, running 2:55 in his debut race! Well done, Landon!

In the field events, William and Gabriel both established new PR's, jumping 14' and 13' respectively! In the shot, Cora's toss of 24'9" is a PR of over FOUR FEET! Aggie made her debut 17'10" and Eleanor's 16'5" is a FIVE FOOT PR! On the boys side, Andrew threw 24'6", very impressive for his first toss of the season! At 19'11", Elias continued his solid season in the shot put circle! Congratulations to all MS Track and Field Badgers on an excellent performance!
