9th/10th Graders Hold Philosophy Coffee House

This week the Blue Room got a makeover temporarily as it became a Philosophy Coffee House for 9th and 10th grade history and literature students. Under the tutelage of history teacher Melissa Winder and English teacher Patty Anderson, each student took on one of six world philosopher personas, becoming experts on their ideas and traits. With tablecloth-covered tables, candles, a fake wood stove, and plenty of hot beverages and cookies, the room evolved into The Philosophy Coffee House for two days. Six students gathered at each table, one playing each of the following philosophers: Locke, Voltaire, Rousseau, Hobbes, Mary Wollstonecraft and Olaudah Equiano. As students sat in discussions as their philosophical personas, their teachers served hot tea, cocoa, cider and cookies. Upper School Dean Jocelyn Camarata floated around the room to validate participation. The Blue Room philosophical vibe was present for sure in this hand-on learning experience.
