It was a fun and busy week at Tandem Friends as the temperatures brought us deeper into spring and the level of activity seemed to increase. There are so many great academic projects and lessons being worked on. Thursday began with our final Admissions Information Session of the year, then morphed into the beloved tradition of Spring Day (begun in 1971). At 11am, Whitney began ringing the bell to announce our special day. What followed was hours of relaxed community fun. The Kona ice truck delivered sweet shaved ice. A water slide and dunk tank provided some cool refreshment. Teachers and staff set up fun activities and Heidi brought baby goats. We had a delicious pizza lunch, took an all-school photo, played some competitive games on the front lawn, and enjoyed a fabulous, music-filled open mic that ended with some spectacular fire dancing and included our own Peter Gaines sharing a poem he wrote about Spring Day - check it out here - it's lovely. What a wonderful day! See Spring Day photos below. Several spring teams completed their seasons this week with final games - both girls soccer teams and varsity LAX. Today brought more ‘lasts’ - our last Pancake Friday of the year, and the final Parent Community meeting of the year. Finally, our annual Day of Giving (you can give through May 12) has brought in ???? so far. We are so thankful for the ongoing support of our community. What a week!
IMPORTANT NOTE OF THANKS: We enjoyed our last gathering of the year as a Parent Community at this morning's final meeting. We are tremendously grateful to our enthusiastic and supportive Parent Community Organizers for making this year such a success! Thank you Katina Wilberger, Julie Bowersett and Rachel Ayers for your hard work and dedication to our community over the last year. You have strengthened our community and made Tandem a more welcoming place for our families. THANK YOU!! Rachael will continue her Parent Community work next year to help and guide new leaders. Interested in volunteering? Sharing the responsibilities among a group of leaders is fun and makes for light work. Email Laura Douglas to express your interest in volunteering next year at Ldouglas@tandemfs.org.

Our 6th graders shared their Shrek the Musical, Jr over the weekend (see a photo slideshow below) and tried out the Ibn Batutta games they created. 7th graders are learning about captains of industry and reading Of Mice and Men. 8th graders have begun studying the Russian Revolution.
In the Upper School, drama students are in tech week for the One-Acts, to be shared this weekend (see details and link below). 9th graders are deep into Julius Caesar and continue working on their TED talks. Sophomores are preparing for their Socratic Seminars in science class. Juniors learned some stress management techniques. Seniors in Senior Comp class are finalizing their memory books. It was Senior Night on Thursday for the nine (yes, nine) seniors on the Varsity Girls Soccer team! Seniors had fun sharing their Senior Pranks today.
