Week #11 - Badgers Advance: 3-0 Victory for Varsity Volleyball

Dave Levy, Athletic Director
Opening the match with four consecutive aces, Sofia was intentional with her serve placement. Like a laser beam, Sofia launched serves at each player in Wakefield's back row. They did their best to return the serve, but at their best, they sent the ball into the bleachers instead. The Girls Varsity Volleyball team advanced to the GPAC Semi-Finals today with an exciting 3-0 victory in front of an enthusiastic Tandem crowd! Lola was especially sharp, swinging with all her might. She had eight kills in the first set alone, smashing the ball down the line. As Wakefield worked to defend the sideline, Lola smashed the ball across the court! On the other side of the floor, Maya gave the Badgers a 16-6 lead as she hit the ball right through the Wakefield blockers. Woosh! Tandem went on to win the first set 25-9!
Receiving perfect sets from Sofia, Emory was powerful in the middle. She smashed the ball toward Wakefield's back row, and they couldn't handle it (most people can't). Later in the set, Emory had a key block right in the middle. The Badgers were excellent defensively - Elisabeth sent the ball right back to sender! Lola had a big block, too! The Badgers closed out the second set with a beautiful pass from Taylor to Sofia - she gave a well-placed set to Althea who smashed the ball from the outside right into the middle! The Badgers finished strong, with Zella clinching the second set with a well-placed hit from the back line, 25-15.

While the Badgers trailed early in the third set, Emory settled the team down with excellent serving. Her serves went right over the net and then dropped immediately to the floor! Wakefield was constantly moving forward to defend the middle, but they couldn't find an answer. Emory ran off six straight aces! The third set featured some exciting rallies - highlighted by Cora saving balls from flying into the bleachers, Zella calmly getting to every single ball, and Sofia casually running off nine serves in a row. The Badgers took the third set 25-18, and the match 3-0.

The team advanced to the semi-finals, where they'll take on #2 ranked Quantico on Tuesday.  I have a wonderful surprise for everybody: the game will be at home at 4:30!! See you in the Badger Den!

Special thanks to Ellia for doing an excellent job on our new scoreboard!  What a quick learner!
