Tandem's Science Olypiad teams competed last weekend in the Flint Hill Invitational Science Olympiad tournament. Medals were awarded to 1st-5th place in each event and trophies were awarded to 1st-3rd place overall school performance. 32 teams representing 17 schools from across Virginia, DC, and Maryland competed in this tournament, which was completely hosted and run by Flint Hill School in Oakton, VA. Because invitational tournaments are not official tournaments, schools participating at them are opting to challenge themselves with a tournament experience before the official tournaments are held. Often, such schools have very competitive programs and the roster of schools at this tournament was no different. Once again, VASO powerhouses such as Langley HS, Fairfax HS, Oakton HS, BASIS McLean, & Lake Braddock SS were present and the level of competition was comparable to a state-level tournament.
I am thrilled to share that TFSSO earned medals in 9 events at this tournament (one more than last year), with 7 being earned by TFS Emerald and 2 by TFS Obsidian.
Excitingly, TFS Emerald placed 6th overall and was only 2 points behind the 5th place team from BASIS McLean. Very exciting! Below is the breakdown of top 10 results from the tournament for each TFSSO team, with earned medals highlighted. Full tournament results can be found

I am very proud of the effort of our team. They represented us well and showed that we can stand toe-to-toe with the best. Of significant note, this tournament really showcased the strength of TFSSO in engineering and physical science events, with TFS Emerald on average scoring higher than 88.5% of other teams in events categorized as "Technology & Engineering." Wow! The road to the regional tournament is only half way done, so there is lots more work to do, but we are off to a fantastic start! Go Badgers!
