Varsity Indoor Track and Field - As Frank Sinatra warned us, "baby it's cold outside." That has not stopped our Indoor Track and Field team from practicing - outside - as they challenge themselves against the elements. Yesterday's competition at Woodberry Forest was the first meet for our squad since December 10th, and the Badgers were ready to take their efforts to another level.
Already the school record holder in the 100 Meters, Nari has lofty goals for Track and Field this season. He used an incredible start to run 7.22 (a PR of .11) in the 55 Meter Dash, qualifying him for the VISAA State Championships! Congratulations to Nari, our top sprinter, who showed off an incredible burst of speed! He returned to the track in the 300 meters, running a blazing 42.23 and pacing our trio! He will represent the team in February! Eli debuted in the event in 42.23, while Peter was hot on his tail in 45.58 - a new PR!
Absolutely obliterating her outdoor PR, Lucy finished 2nd in 13:22 - and we will see her blazing self at VISAA states! "She ran a very smart race," Coach Casey shared, "working in a pack the whole time and responding to any move the lead runner made, never losing touch." Congratulations, Lucy - well deserved!
The Badgers enjoyed lots of state qualifiers this afternoon - including an exciting relay race! The team of Brendan, Peter W, Peter D and Hayes clocked in at 4:10.75, earning them a spot at states! Peter W logged his leg of the 400 AFTER running both the 1600 and 3200 (that is three hard miles!). According to Coach Casey he "ran a 63 second leg to help his team qualify for states! Left it all on the track!" Cheers to you, Peter W! We'll see you in Virginia Beach in February!
Our 500 Meter duo have a combination of Cross Country endurance and Track and Field speed! Running the 500 for the first time, Ethan came through in 1:30, while Nico, the PR King, earned a five second PR of 1:34! Over in the circle, Tyler launched the shot 28'4"!!
Alexander and Zeke had a busy day! They ran the 1000 Meters - together - running a solid 3:31 and 3:34 respectively! The boys distance crew continued to excel in the 1600 - Hayes won in 4:45, qualifying him for states, Peter W ran a blazing 5:09 and Ethan came through well under 6:00 in a time of 5:43! Peter W ran a super difficult distance double (and also ran the aforementioned relay), running the 3200 in 11:16, working closely with Brendan who ran 11:11! Alexander made his indoor 3200 debut in a time of 13:01!
Congratulations to the Varsity Indoor Track and Field team for an incredible performance at Woodberry! The team will conclude their season at VISAA States on February 12 in Virginia Beach!
