Week #31 - Badgers Win Big on their Home Field!

Girls Varsity Soccer - Throughout the first twenty-five minutes of the game, the Badgers kept the ball in their offensive zone. The team had several quality scoring chances, a few corner kicks and showed off precision passing. At the twenty-five minute mark, Hadley smashed a free-kick from about thirty feet away with such force that it left a hole in the net! The Badgers took a 1-0 lead, and from there, the flood gates opened!

Catriona made a beautiful pass up the line, sending the ball Ruthie who found Althea just outside the box.  Althea launched a powerful shot, and got her toes under it, lofting the ball high into the air. The ball traveled in the shape of a rainbow, just over the outstretched arms of the WCDS goalie, and crashed into the pot of gold on the other end! .

Defensively, Juli was a juggernaut, working together with Annie to keep the ball far away from the goal. Sophie cleared the ball ahead to Taylor, who fired the ball just inside the near post. It snuck just past the goalie, earning Taylor her first goal of the season!

Keeping their foot on the gas, Nieve attacked the net. She earned a corner kick, and sent the ball into the middle where Sam was perfectly positioned. The goalie came out but was too late, as Sam had already knocked that ball right past her. The Badgers took a 4-0 lead into the break.

Early in the second half, Alice provided great pressure at midfield and Alex had an excellent save in her debut performance as the goalie.  Lola, today's Badger-Ball recipient, dribbled right around the defense, flipping the field! She sent the ball ahead to Maeve who dribbled into the box.  Maeve fired a shot, and the goalie was able to get a hand on it, but it deflected towards Hadley who scored her second goal of the game!

With a 5-0 lead, Sophie completely dominated the left side of the field. Eliminating any possible WCDS attack, Sophie sent the ball ahead to Ruthie, who worked closely with Althea to earn a corner kick!  After Nieve launched the ball into the box, Maeve passed it to Althea, who hit the crossbar on a strong shot from the middle!

Continuing their offensive prowess, Lola sent the ball ahead to Hattie, who dribbled into the box. Dashing in at full speed, she was tackled by an opponent and sent flying into the air. After she landed, she took a moment to catch her breath, and Coach Nemanja signaled to Hattie that she should take the penalty kick - which she promptly drilled past the goalie! Well done, Hattie!

The Badgers would go on to add a 7th goal. Nieve has scored in every home game, and this was no different, as she dribbled by the entire defense and forced the goalie to leave the net - shooting the ball past her to keep the Tandem offense humming.

The end of the second half also saw Zoey in attack mode, getting into the box for several shots, and working closely with Kaylee, who controlled the ball in the middle as well. Alex dove for another save, earning a shutout in her first game of the season. The Badgers improved their record to an impressive 4-2 (3-0 at home)
