Badgers Beat Badgers to Win VCU Quiz Bowl Winter Tournament

Tandem sent two Quiz Bowl teams to compete in the varsity division of the Virginia Commonwealth University Quiz Bowl Winter Tournament last Saturday. They competed against around 24 schools from about a 2-hour radius from Richmond. Little did we know that those two Tandem teams would do so well that they would up badgering it out in the finals against one another! Tandem A - Vivi T, Alex S, Nati Y and Jude G cruised through the preliminary rounds with a record of 7-1. Tandem B - Tyler B, Madeline M, Zeke L and Otis H completed the preliminary rounds with a record of 5-3. Only the top 8 teams made the single elimination playoff rounds. The final match came down to Tandem A vs. Tandem B. It was close throughout and Tandem A held a 15-point lead going into the final question. A correct toss-up gets you 10 points, then your team can earn 30 points by answering three 10-point bonuses. That pulled Tandem B within 5 points. They answered the first bonus question correctly (NVIDIA) and secured the win.
