Week #14 - Smooth Slam Off Opening Tip Sets the Tone for Opening Day!

Dave Levy, Athletic Director
Varsity Boys Basketball
At the end of our admissions information sessions, Gordon always describes his experience at Tandem as the most incredible movie anybody has ever seen. "Today, you got to see the trailer," he tells the perspective families, "but I promise you, the movie is so much better."

Off the opening tip this evening, Quis batted the ball ahead to Sean. Holding the ball above his head, he surveyed the floor, finding Isaac cutting to the rim. Off a beautiful pass, Isaac slammed the ball through the rim with incredible power, easily the most epic first basket of the season any of us have ever seen!
The Badgers led 24-0 after the first quarter and 43-6 at the half. The defense was suffocating. "We've got so many athletes," Coach Sam reflected, "and we just play at a different pace." When Boys' Home tried to pass the ball in, they were met by the lateral speed of Tre and Anthony's quick hands. If they managed to get the ball across half court, which is a considerable challenge, they had to force difficult shots over the outstretched arms of Seamus or Sean. It's tough sledding for anybody against this ferocious defense.

When Derion gets the ball behind the arc, the entire building lights up. He rewarded the crowd, knocking in three triples, two from the wing and one from the corner. He finished with 11 points, one of four Badgers to score double digits. Isaac had 12 and multiple flashy dunks, while Sean finished with 17, showing off his three point shot when the defense gave him too much space. In fairness to them, how are you supposed to defend him? In the post, he'll just pin you under the basket, show off beautiful footwork, and score. On the perimeter, he'll show off his guard skills and go right around you. So when the three goes in you just have to tip your cap.

Sin was smooth with the rock, finding Keeman down the floor. A lefty slasher, Keeman took the ball to the rim, scoring 10 in his first game in the Badger Den. Mason proved to be a mismatch, operating out of the high post, while Miles got the rim in transition. Tre'Sean was constantly deflecting the ball defensively, and also cashed in a three in the second quarter.

With a massive lead, Shaan got loose for a three in the corner. You better not leave him open either! Between Isaac's three blocks on one possession, Quis with a big slam in the third quarter and Derion diving on the floor for loose balls, our Badgers showed the crowd an impressive trailer tonight for what's going to be quite a season. We hope you'll join us again Friday at 5:30 when Tandem takes on St Michael's at home, following the Girls Varsity at 4:00.

Thanks so much to our awesome student section! Such great energy! Thanks also to Jocelyn, our scoreboard guru, and to Dev for doing the book! 1-0! Badger Up!
