Week #24 - Senior Day Victory Highlights Three Exceptional Seniors
Varsity Boys Basketball - Sean came out red hot and had nine in the opening period, but Tandem was trailing 20-14 towards the end of the first quarter. Isaac penetrated the zone, made a tough basket, drew the contact and cashed in at the foul line. On the other end, Quis rebounded in traffic, threw an outlet pass to Sin and then relocated to the corner, where he knocked in a three to end the quarter. The game was tied at 20.
Veritas set the tone early, scoring four three pointers in the first period. Sin flipped the momentum in the second, stealing the initial inbounds pass and going the length of the court for a lay up. Moments later, he dribbled the ball up against a passive 2-3 zone. With neither elbow defender coming out to guard Sin, he let the ball fly, putting the finishing touches on a 7-0 run to start the quarter.
Veritas continued to attack the basket, but Derion broke up their momentum. He entered the game off the bench and immediately went into microwave mode. Don't even bother to hit the thirty second button because Derion has already hit two three pointers - neither of which hit the rim - giving his team a 32-24 edge. The Badgers also enjoyed excellent defensive pressure from Tre and Kemaan and the team led by eight at the half.
Veritas opened the third quarter with a three pointer from the top of the key, but Isaac responded with a triple of his own on the next possession. He continued to be in attack mode, catching the ball at the elbow and using elite balance and footwork to avoid a charge. Isaac took the contact, went to the line, and the Badgers led 49-46.
With great defensive pressure, and Quis leading the charge, Tandem went on a big run. Quis got to the rim with incredible speed, drawing a foul and scoring at the line. Sin shot one of his patented high-difficulty lay-ups and Isaac converted yet another three. The Badgers took a convincing 62-52 lead.
Veritas was not done. Despite a powerful dunk from Quis, Veritas went on a run of their own, eventually cutting the lead to two points. Quis, with a powerful take to the rim, scored and drew the contact, giving Tandem a five-point lead. On the other end, Isaac blocked the opponent's final attempt to get back in the game, and the Badgers emerged victorious, 84-76!
Sean scored eight points at the line in the final period, and 20 for the game. He has now exceeded 1,000 points for his high school career! Congratulations to Sean on this incredible achievement - and to his family, coaches and teammates who helped him get there! It was a big offensive night for Tandem: Isaac also finished with 20, Sin had 12, and the team was led in scoring tonight by Quis, who had 23.
Congratulations to our exceptional Varsity Boys Basketball team, and their trio of seniors, Sin, Sean and Quis who earned a big win on Senior Day! The Varsity Badgers improved their record to 11-8 and 5-1 in the GPAC. The team will take on RMA at home on Wednesday, February 18 at 7pm in the GPAC Semi-Finals. Hope to see you there!
