What better way to create fond childhood memories than a meaningful experience at Spectrum Summer Programs at Tandem Friends? For over 30 years, Spectrum has offered an exciting array of creative classes designed to provoke thought and pique new interests. Spectrum offers your child an abundance of creative possibilities.

The Tandem Friends campus provides a friendly, relaxed environment for creative self-expression. Teen assistants will help eliminate feelings of being lost or overwhelmed, particularly with younger children. The wonderful energy created when young people of different abilities and talented teachers work together is one of the many aspects that makes Spectrum unique. Two-week sessions allow ample time for children to realize in-depth exploration of their creative choices and a four-period day provides opportunities for curious students to experiment and try something different.

This summer we are excited to be partnering again with Virginia Outside of Richmond, offering four exciting one-week fishing excursions for kids age 6-14 (see page 9). Our ever-growing “Get in the Game Basketball” camp will be happening all three sessions. This summer we are again offering Chef Lisa’s Lunch & Snack program, allowing parents the option of bringing or buying lunches and snacks (see page 10). We have some wonderful new offerings as well as some old favorites. Michael Loret is offering a mock Presidential campaign, In It To Win, for our 7th and 8th graders, Sherri Smith is back with her innovative Box City, Marbleworks, session 3. Darrell Rose, our resident African drummer, as always, provides Spectrum’s heartbeat (sessions 1 and 3)!

Community building activities and free play between classes allow campers to make new friends in an unstructured environment. Each session culminates with our “Spectrum Extravaganza”— an art and performance exhibition. Parents are encouraged to pack a lunch and join their children at noon on the last day of each session. We also offer an extended day, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m., for an additional $180 fee per child per session. It’s shaping up to be another exciting summer!
Spectrum 2017 will run in three two-week sessions beginning on June 19, 2017.
